Remaking Garbage

Today I looked into my bag of garbage and realized I could do better. I took out the yogurt container and the Staples plastic 10% Off card and made 16 garden labels - much more sturdy and long-lasting than the wooden ones I used last year. I used the yogurt lid and base too, and with Sharpie to write on it, I have very good label that will last for at least this season. I ended up with a very small amount plastic for my garbage bag (at least until those garden labels have to finally put back in the garbage). I also decided I could throw my used tissues into the compost pile, further reducing my garbage volume.

Later, we finished the box of wine we opened a few days ago - time to celebrate the spectacular weather, all the blooming flowers, and another day with almost nothing new entering my garbage bag. This wine box is not recyclable where we live (although the box claims it can be recycled in Canada) but it can be reused. It will be converted into a Yoka Wallet. (See other Yoka Wallets made from many different beverage boxes here.) The conversion will be documented later from this trendy-looking box. It will become Reason #11 for buying Bandit Wine! Now if I could just figure how how to reuse my rice cracker package...

Hope you liked the Bandit! We are trying our best to get make recyclable wine containers. Unfortunately, many states do not recycle Tetra Paks yet. You can find a good list of where you can though here: http://www.recyclecartons.com/

thanks,

Thanks for link, Matt. Until it is possible to recycle such containers here, we'll think up other ways to use the cartons. Anybody out there with other ideas in addition to Yoka Wallets?
